Candi Sambisari, 25/02/2011




Candi Sambisari is located in the hamlet, village Purwomartani Jogjakarta.
This Hindu-style temple was discovered by local farmers in 1966 and restored up to 1985. Built in 812-838 AD during the reign of King Rakai Garung of the Hindu Kingdom of Mataram (Mataram).

Devastating eruption of Merapi on 1006, this temple was buried material vomit. So when excavated, the temple was located at a depth of 6.5 meters from the ground around it.

Temple complex surrounded by walls of white stone fence that is still original. There are one main temple and 3 unfinished ancillary temples.

The main temple surrounded by a fence wall with Yoni and Linga in it. On the front wall there are two empty niches without statues. On the north wall of the niche there is Durga. On the south wall there is a statue niche Agastya. And on the east wall there are niches Ganesha statue.
